Other Crops

At Esco we love enabling farmers to diversify their crops and reduce risk away from their primary income. We’ve been doing this since we started, and teaching farmers financial responsibility is one of the most important things we do.

Here are some of the ways we do this:

Moringa

Moringa is a drought-resistant, fast growing tree native to Asia. Also known as a wonder tree, the seeds, pods, leaves and roots are all highly nutritious and used for health, food, feed and beverages.

Esco mainly promotes the growing of the moringa tree in the Kasese region of Uganda.

We export the sun-dried moringa seeds primarily for the oil market; please get in touch with us for leaf or seed, format and certification needs.

Birds Eye Chillies

Uganda birds eye chillies are a hot commodity and Esco is promoting the crop and purchasing it through farmer groups in Kagadi, Kasese, Rukungiri and Busoga.

We also encourage chillies to be planted alongside cocoa which further encourages farmers to diversify and provides an income within the three years that it takes for cocoa to begin producing fruit.

Growing in these regions is almost entirely organic with few farmers using any synthetic additives at all.

Macadamia Nuts

This delicious, buttery and sweet nut is packed with flavour and nutrients. Native to Australia it grows beautifully as another diversification option for our farmers in some regions.
